We sing a little chorus that goes like this:
"Victory, victory shall be mine
victory, victory shall be mine
if I hold my peace and let the Lord fight my battles
victory, victory shall be mine"
I was thinking about that little chorus this morning and realized how true it really is. When we are hurt or something is done against us it is easy to lash out against those who have misused us. But that is not God's way. God wants to be our defender: Psa 5:11 "But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them always shout for joy, because You defend them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You." He wants to be the one to do battle for us.
Many times in the Bible we see where an outnumbered army of the Lord went into battle and had to do very little, if any, fighting at all. Time and time again the Lord caused the enemy army to turn upon itself and the victory was won. (see Judges 7:11) If God did it then, He can and does do it today for those belong to Him. If we hold our peace and let God do the fighting He will and the victory will be sweeter because you will know that it came from Him.
Since we are not fighting with swords and shields but nowadays with words and actions, how does God fight our battles for us? I believe He will cause our names to be cleared and that which we have lost will be restored. Just like he caused the army of Midian to turn against themselves in Judges 7:11, He causes those who persecute us today to turn against themselves. If we are standing peacefully by waiting on the Lord and the persecuter is raging and doing foolish things, they will show themselves up and all will see who the guilty one was.
God loves you and as a loving Father, He will take care of you. He will hold you and protect you and when the enemy comes against you, He will defend you and restore you. The next time someone comes against you, hold your peace and watch the Lord fight your battle.
