It's All About You, Jesus (I think)

    A while ago Paul Oakley wrote a beautiful song called Jesus, Lover of My Soul (It's All About You). I have loved it from the first time I heard it. It really says it all: our worship should be about Jesus, not us.  Everything that we do should be for His glory and His fame, not ours. We can sing that song but unless we truly live those words, they are just words.
     At one of the first churches we pastored we had a young piano player who loved to sing this song. The congregation didn't know it, so it was never one that we could all worship together with. No, this was just her song. She would hold the notes to show her voice to the best advantage. She would get teary eyed at the same spot each time. This song was definitely for her glory and her fame. It had nothing to do with honoring the Lord. It was painfully obvious and I have never been able to look at this song the same since.
    I recently read a blog that was much the same, it was all about this person's likes and dislikes and how things affected her etc, etc. We live in a world where we have become very self centered. I guess we think that the world revolves around us. This puts us in a terrible place and has the potential for many reprecussions,none of them positive. Recently my dear friend Anita Green said that we worship God in whatever way WE find comfortable, not necessarily the way He wants to be worshipped.
     We have become so self centered that we are not willing to make our worship God centered. It's time to break that mold. It's time to make it all about Him. What do you spend your time thinking of? Is it Him? What do you spend your time talking about? Is it Him? Or yourself? He alone needs to be the center of our beings, our lives, our day to day. He needs to be our first priority. If He is not first, we need to repent and put Him in His rightful place.
     Our God is a jealous god (Exodus 20:4-5). He says very clearly in His Word that we are not to have any other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3). So many people think that means that as long as they are not worshipping a false god then they are ok. But a 'false god' can be anything or anyone, (including ourselves) that we put first in our lives. What is number one in your life? Who is? Only you can answer that but take a few minutes to ask yourself and search your heart. Maybe you will need to ask for His help to reveal this to you. If you ask Him for help, He will give it to you.
     He alone is worthy of our praise, not ourselves, not anything or anyone else. Our God is an awesome God!
