My Dad is currently on a trip to Cape Breton, NS. He is a town counselor and as such has to attend meetings quite a bit. This week's meetings happen to be in Membertoo (that's probably spelled wrong). I miss him so much when he is away. It immediately takes me back to when I was growing up and he would have to go on business trips for the federal government. He was an auditor for the government and had to audit various government offices from time to time. Most of his trips were for a week or two at the most but I remember one that was for six weeks and I thought the time would never pass. I can remember going into his closet just to smell his sweater that he had worn just before he left. Oh I missed him!
Once he had to go to work in the Sydney, NS office for the whole summer but we got to go with him then. We had a tent trailer camper so we went camping for the whole time. It was great fun. We got to be with Dad in the evenings and we got to go camping. You can't beat that.
Every year in the fall, Dad would go on a hunting trip for a week or so. I couldn't wait until he came home! I always tried to be the first one to give him a hug so I could bury my face in his jacket and smell the wonderful woodsy smell that was on him.
Whenever my Dad went away I would count the days until he returned. Maybe you think I should have grown up by now, but I guess I haven't. I still count the days until I know he is home again. I love my Dad and I want to be near him. As born again Christians we have the same anticipation of seeing our Heavenly Father. We know there is coming a day when we WILL get to see Him face to face! And what a day that will be!
When my Dad travels, he always calls and we get to talk but it's not the same as being together in the same room. As Christians we get to talk to our Father all the time too and listen for His voice, but one day we will be in the same place with him. What a reunion that will be! To be near our Father, to be able to sit at His feet and listen to Him, in person!
When Jesus was here on earth He comforted His disciples with these words:
Joh 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
He has promised that He is coming back. He's coming back for us! So we can be together in the same place! Isn't that a wonderful promise? When my Dad travels and has to be away from us I know he is coming back and I look forward to his return. As a child of God I know He is coming back and I can look forward with anticipation to HIS return.
