Nursing Home Blessings

I went to our local nursing home today to do our very first weekly Bible study. We have been conducting church services for these precious people for the past 4+years and have grown very close with them. My husband has been named as the home's first chaplain and the opportunity to hold weekly Bible studies was presented to us. We were so excited to be able to branch out in this area and wondered how our first study would go.

I was not to be disappointed. We had seven in attendance and their excitement was palatable. They eagerly anticipated what I was going to teach. I don't know the spiritual background of all the people who were there but I could see in their faces that they wanted to hear more of God's Word and loved hearing the Scriptures read to them. These were people who had not had a Bible study in a very long time and they appreciated having one. These dear souls knew that God's Word "is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path". Psalm 119:105.

It was such an honour to be able to do this small thing for these dear seniors. Many of these saints pray for our family and our church. Although their bodies are now broken down, many of their minds are not. They are still very active and able to still do something for the Lord-they can pray. Something that we all can do.

Psalm 119:11 says "Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You." Whether it be a Bible study with a group or study on your own, studying the Word of God is important for all of us. The Word of God is our instruction for living Book. God loved us all so very much that He chose to reveal Himself through His Word. We need to treasure that Word. We need to study it and know it and hold it in our heart.

Let me encourage you to study the Word today! God will bless you if you do. He has promised to: "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near."
