Transformation

Two days ago we started working on our old farmhouse that we recently purchased and while it has only been two full days of work, it's hard to believe what a difference has already been accomplished. I had expected to still be at the cleaning stage by this time but because of a great crew of friends who showed up to help, we not only have the cleaning done but most of the painting as well. It has been an amazing transformation.

When we bought the house we thought we would be making it liveable over the next few months but that is not to be the case. We thought it was in such bad shape but all it needed was some cleaning and new paint. I will be posting before and after pictures soon, so stay tuned.

As I was painting our kitchen ceiling yesterday I was reminded of how dark our lives are without the light of Christ in them. The previous owners had painted the wooded kitchen ceiling a dark mustard brown colour. I'm sure you can just imagine how dismal and oppressive that looked, especially since the kitchen has a low ceiling. We opted to paint it a beautiful high gloss white and what a difference it made in the whole room! Just a new coat of paint totally transformed the room from something ugly and dark into something beautiful and bright.

Our lives are the same way as that old dark ceiling when we allow sin to come in. Things like strife, anger, hatred, jealousy, and others make our whole disposition dark and ugly but when we allow the Saviour to come in and clean house, so to speak, we can become something beautiful and that Light will show through us to the whole world. We will have peace and contentment. We will have love and forgiveness. We will be a pleasure to be around and will draw others to know the Reason for our happiness.

Our old house didn't have much choice what colour it was painted. We chose to transform it and we need to make that choice to have our lives transformed too. God is not going to 'make' you a new person if you don't want to be. He will never force His way or will onto you. You have to want to be made new and if you ask Him to clean you up, He will. He will forgive you of your sins and give you a new life without the baggage from the old one. He will never hold your sins against you if you have repented of them and He will help you make the right choices from now on, if you just ask Him.

Just like our old house will be transformed, you can be too. It may not be a physical coat of paint or a physical cleaning, but God can clean and restore your heart to be like His. Are you ready to be transformed into something new?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
