Firmly Planted

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:7-8

Whom or what have you put your trust in? Whom or what do you depend on? Is it your job? Your family? Your friends? Your government? Yourself? All of these things and people can fail you and probably will at one time or another but the Word encourages us to put our trust and confidence in the Lord because He, alone, will never let us down.

When our trust is in the Lord we can be confident that we will always be provided for and taken care of. We truly will be like the tree that's planted close to the water. Just like the water constantly nourishes the tree, so will God constantly nourish and care for us. When the heat comes the tree's leaves will always be green. When trials and hardships come our way we will not wilt because our hope is in the Lord. He will carry us through the trial and help us over the hardship.

Even when drought comes the tree doesn't have to worry because it will still bear fruit. In our life we will have dry spells; times when we can't feel God's presence, but rest assured He is still there and we can have the confidence of knowing that He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. We can't live our lives based on our feelings. We may not always 'feel' saved but if we have put our trust in the Lord we know that we are. We can still 'bear fruit' by continuing to do His work and reflecting Him to the world around us, even when we feel dry and parched spiritually.

We need to be firmly planted close to our Source of nourishment, just like the tree that's planted by the water and sends out its roots to the stream. When we read His Word we receive the nourishment that we need. The Word is food for our soul. In Genesis it talks about how at the end of the day God would come and walk in the garden with Adam. God desires to have daily communication with His children. Talk with Him. Spend time with Him and when you do you will be firmly planted, fully confident that He will take care of you always.
