Making Room

We all live a very busy life, well at least most of us. There are the few people who whine 'I'm bored' but to be honest there aren't that many of them left. Our society is going faster and faster each year. We are so used to multitasking that it has become second nature. We have jobs, soccer practice, piano lessons, gym memberships, and so many things that demand our time  that sometimes God takes a back seat in our lives. There just isn't time for God on top of everything else we have to do.... or so we think.

I believe that 'busyness' is actually one of the traps Satan sets for us. If he can keep us busy enough, doing anything, we won't have time or place for God in our life. Let me encourage you to carefully look at your priorities and give God first place in your life. If you do, you will be so blessed that you'll wonder why you ever thought of doing anything else.

In 2 Kings chapter 4 we read about a woman who had a busy life yet she made room for God in her life. The Shunammite woman was a well off woman. She was wealthy. She would have had social obligations to attend to as well as a large household to manage. But every time Elisha, the prophet of God, came to town, she would make sure he ate a meal at her home. She was gracious and welcoming to him. She took time out of her busy day to do something nice for the man of God. After one particular visit the Shunammitte woman said to her husband: “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.” Her husband agreed and she made room for the prophet.

We all need to make room in our hearts and in our lives for God. It's easy to say we love the Lord but the old saying is true: "actions speak louder than words". We must show God that we love Him by giving Him room in our lives, making Him our priority. As you sit here reading this today examine your heart and see if God has a place there. Examine your life, the hours spent on everything else, and make room for God. He has made a place for you in Heaven and it's yours if you will only turn your life over to Him today. Or will you say like that inn keeper so long ago 'no room'. Make room for Jesus today. God bless you.
