A New Heart

Jeremiah 17:9-10 tells us that "the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 'I the Lord, search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.'" So many times people will rely on their feelings or their heart to guide them in life's decisions but the Word clearly tells us that our heart is deceitful and not only deceitful but deceitful above ALL things and it is beyond cure.

We can't trust our heart, it will lie to us. It is deceitful. Instead we need to ask the Lord to create or make us a new heart like the psalmist David did. In Psalm 51:10 David asks of the Lord to "create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." David wanted a heart that would be steadfast, steady, unwavering, sure. A heart that would follow after God and not lead him into the paths of sin again. He wanted a new heart and only God can create. Only God can give a new heart to us and He will if we ask Him.

Asking God for a new heart is relinquishing control over to Him. Its asking God to not only clean up our old heart with its sinful ways but to give us a new one so we can begin again. In Ezekiel 36:26 God promises that He will "give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh". Only God can do that. Only God can take a heart that is deceitful and drawn towards sin and give us a new one that seeks Him, that follows after His ways.

If you haven't asked God for a new heart please do so today. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, all the things you have done in your life that are contrary to His ways. Repent. Be sorry for what you've done. And turn control of your life over to Him. Ask Him for a new heart. A new beginning. A fresh start. And I promise you He will give you that new heart of flesh and take away your heart of stone. God can do that and He will.
