When our kids were small I babysat other children in our home during the day and when Brad would come home at supper time I would go out in the evening and sell Tupperware. I was willing to do whatever it took to be a stay at home mom with my kids. I love Tupperware and no matter how hard other companies try they can't come up to the high standards or durability of Tupperware. Lest I begin to sound like a commercial I'll stop extolling the qualities of Tupperware, but I will say this: I am still using the same Tupperware I purchased almost 28 years ago and it has never worn out or had its air tight seal compromised.
One of my absolute favourite pieces is my flour keeper. It is a rectangular container which holds a full 10kg ( 22 lbs) bag of flour. It was one of my favourite pieces of Tupperware to demonstrate during my sales parties because no one would believe me that I could get the whole bag into that narrow container. But I did. The trick is to turn the bag upside down over the container and then begin to tamp the container on the floor. You tamp, shake, tamp, shake until all the flour is in the container and you can lift the empty bag off the top and throw it away. Needless to say I sold many of these flour containers, that is, once I convinced the women present that it could be done.
I have run into women who say they 'can't be bothered' to get all the flour into the container and they're content to just leave a few cups in the bag and roll the top down. They're not patient enough to tamp and shake and tamp and shake for a few minutes to get all that they could get into the container.
Sometimes we're like that too, spiritually speaking. We're content to have some of God's blessings but we're not willing to give complete control over our life to Him so we limit the blessings He can pour into us. My flour keeper is a constant reminder of how God blesses us. God is not content in giving us just little blessings, He wants to saturate us with His blessings. He wants to pour Himself into us until there is more of Him and less of us. He wants people who look at us, who work with us, who live with us, to see Him reflected in our face and our actions. He wants to bless us abundantly.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38
What measure are you using? Luke 6:38 says that your blessings will be measured to you according to the measure you use for others. Are you a generous giver? Do you seek to bless others? Do you see to the needs of others before your own? If you do God has promised in His Word that you will receive a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over! Every time I look at my Tupperware flour keeper I am reminded of how tightly packed and running over God wants His blessings to be in my life!
I want all that God has in store for me! I want every blessing He has planned for my life. I don't want to be filled with anything other than Him. So I need to make sure there is room for Him. That means that I have to do some regular housekeeping of my heart and make sure that things that are not pleasing to Him aren't in there. I want to fill my mind with His thoughts from His Word and I want to fill my mouth with praises to Him. I want God to tamp me down so He can fill me up with His Holy Spirit. What about you?
