Matthew: a Merry Heart

"Pro 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast." I can think of no other verse that so perfectly applies to our son Matthew than this one. "He that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast". I wrote this note when Matthew turned 18 and I can honestly say that life with him has been a continual feast. He has brought such joy and laughter into our home that I can't imagine life without him.

When Matthew came into the world the Lord must have decided that his older more serious brother needed to have someone to balance him out, so He made Matthew with a merry heart that would over the years continue to spill over onto everyone around him. That's not to say Matthew didn't have his serious side growing up. When he was six he decided that his sister needed to be saved so right there, near the playground, he had her repeat the sinners prayer and repent of her sins. She was three.

He likes to take care of people and bring joy into their lives. Matthew is filled with great compassion for all living things. He will rescue spiders when they sneak into the house and release them outside. He does the same for flies and any other icky thing that might otherwise be squashed by someone else.

He can't stand injustice of any form. He is a champion of the weak or the oppressed. When he was fifteen he went on his first missions trip and his eyes were opened to some of the ugliness of the world; yet instead of it changing him into a bitter person he has kept his joy and has since been on another missions trip. He has a great heart, a merry heart.

I have learned so much from Matthew that I think we all could benefit from. First Matthew loves the Lord with all his heart. He reads the Word daily. Secondly, he loves the people around him and tries to make their life better. The room lights up when he walks in and it goes dim when he leaves.
"Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew is like a whirlwind, you know he is in the room. He is a world changer and I don't know what the Lord has for him to do yet, but I do know that wherever the Lord has him serve will never be the same.

He has been my joy, my feast, my blessing from the Lord.
