Be Holy

"A man who fears not God, will break his laws with an easy conscience but one who is the favorite of heaven, who has been indulged to sit at royal banquets, who knows the eternal love of God to him, cannot bear that there should be any evil way in him that might grieve the Spirit and bring dishonor to the name of Christ. A very little sin, as the world calls it, is a very great sin to a truly awakened Christian" --Charles Spurgeon

I think sometimes we glide along in our Christian walk, blissfully unaware that we have allowed the world's standards to become our own. We deceive ourselves that we are living a life that is pleasing to God while all along we are compromising our faith by the little things that we let slip by and justify or find excuse for.
Maybe its our integrity or honesty at work. Maybe it's a little 'white' lie or a coarse joke. Maybe it's a bit of gossip we know we shouldn't be repeating or a put down that should have not been said.

As a child of God, one who is the favoured of Heaven, why would we do those things? Why would we allow those things to mark us as being a hypocrite, a phoney?  Why, would we lower our standards and put our reputation and our witness up to be shamed by those watching our walk with the Lord? The world may be dishonest or crude or vulgar but as a child of the Most High King, we cannot. We have a standard of holiness to uphold.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

I Peter 1:15-16

Let me challenge you to examine your life and see if your standards are God's standards or if you need a little work, a little 'spit and polish' here and there to become more holy. We serve a holy God and we are told be be holy to please Him. He has set us apart from the world and we are to be different. We are to be the light in the darkness, we are to stand out from the rest. People should know we belong to Him by the way we act and speak. We should reflect Him everywhere we are, whether at home or at work or out in the community.

Let's live holy lives before Him and be holy because He is holy. There are no such things as 'little' sins. Sin is sin and there are no degrees of sins. We have a holy God who cannot abide any sin to be in His presence.
I want to be able to approach Him at anytime. I want His eyes to fall on me and be well pleased with what He sees. I want to be holy because He is holy.
