Words to Live By

Alannah and I bought vinyl lettering to put on our freshly painted walls today. It gives the house an updated appearance and I really like the messages they each carry. They're positive reminders to all who see them of what our outlook should be. The one in our living room says "Heal the Past--Live the Present--Dream the Future". I like that, especially the "Live the Present" part because it's a reminder that we can't keep living in the past. We have to let it go and concentrate on the present. And I love the "Dream the Future". My husband and I have always had dreams that we make 'what if' and 'someday' plans about. It's important to have dreams and to share them with the one you love. Without dreams you can't have hope.

In the dining room we put one that says "Everyday holds the Possibility of a Miracle". The dining room is the place where we are all together, as a family, around the table. We share the stories and happenings of our day and talk about how good God is to all of us. We talk about our blessings. We all know that God has preformed miracles in our lives and that He continues to. We know that there is no such thing as coincidence, that God has a plan for each of our lives.

In the entryway we put one above the door so as you're leaving the house for the day you will read: "Make Each Day your Masterpiece". It's a reminder to make each day count, to be intentional in your life. If we all lived each day as if it was our last day on earth, I'm sure we would all do things better and different than we do now.

"We do not Remember Days We Remember Moments", hangs in the hallway, again a reminder to make each moment count and "Cherish the Past, Live for Today, Dream for Tomorrow" is the last one. It might sound like there are words everywhere but they're spaced out and look nice and sometimes we all need a gentle reminder of how we should act and live our life.

I think it's important to choose our words carefully and to 'say what you mean and mean what you say'. Words can hurt and words can heal. Words can tear down and words can encourage. Words can bind two people together and words can tear people apart. Words are important. There are certain words that have special meaning to us. One of my husband's special words is Integrity. My husband is a man of intregrity and has strived to have intregity as part of his character always. Another important word in our household is Honesty. Honesty is essential to building good, strong relationships. Loyalty is another. I could go on and on but you get the point.

What are the words that you live by? Do you have special ones that mean something to you? Do you share them with the ones you love? Whether you print them on your walls as reminders or you just know them in your heart, choose your words wisely and make every one of them count.

"For by your words will your righteousness be seen, and by your words you will be judged." Matthew 12:37
