All Alone.....With You

"Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:25-26)

Oh how I love God's Word! It never fails to lift me up and give me the encouragement I need. It reminds me that my strength is in Him alone and that He is all I need and will ever need.

There have been times in my life, and I'm sure yours too, when I have felt all alone. I have been surrounded by family, and sometimes even friends, but because of circumstances and grief and trial, I have felt alone. There have been times when the Lord has allowed me to not walk through, but sit and stay in, a valley for a time. Those can be very lonely times.

Sometimes because of upbringing and position there may be a smile on my face and duties still being performed but the ache in my heart is very real. I have had friends desert me and others never draw close. Have you been there too? Have you ever felt alone? I think we all have at one time or another. And I believe that at even those times the Lord would have us learning a lesson from Him.

Sometimes it is when all have turned against us and nothing is going right that we realize that we still have God in our life and so we need nothing more. We can sing the little chorus "He's all I need, He's all I need, Jesus is all I need", but we don't completely understand that until we have experienced loss in some form or another. Whether it be the loss of relationship or wealth or status or reputation or health or anything else, we soon realize that we still have Jesus in our life and He truly IS all we need.

There are times that we are weak and have no strength of our own. Times when we feel like we just can't face another day. When we can't see any end in sight to the trial that we find ourselves in. It is at times like these that we need to remember that He gives His strength to our failing hearts and He will bring us through. We can have hope in a hopeless situation and know that He will 'never leave us nor forsake us'. He won't turn His back on us.

But all this is predicated on Him actually being a part of our life. When we choose to ignore God, then we truly are all alone. But when we ask Him to come into our life and to direct our paths He will and although the entire world may turn their backs on us, we will never be alone again. We will have God with us and on our side and there is nothing this world has to offer that can compare with that!

The world may look at us and think we have nothing, but if we have God in our life then we have everything! We have all we need! He is a 'friend that sticks closer than a brother'. He is our Provider, our Strength, our Portion, our Dearest Friend! He is all we need.
