Why Is This Happening To Me??

Why is this happening to me? I think we've probably all wondered that at one point or another. Sometimes the answer is apparent right away especially if we know we have done something and now we have to bear the consequences. But sometimes we haven't done anything and we still have to go through trials. It's at those times when the answer is only made clear in hindsight. We can clearly see the results of the trial and so we know why we had to go through it. If we have more patience afterwards then maybe God was trying to teach us patience. If we are stronger in our faith then maybe He felt our faith needed a little bolstering.

Sometimes it isn't us that needs the lesson. Sometimes it is to show others our faith and encourage them. But whatever the reason why we have to go through a trial we know that God will bring us through and His Word promises that it will be for our good. It's hard to think that something that hurts, like a trial, is actually for our good but God promises that it is.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

In Genesis we read the story of Joseph and the trials he had to face. Not only was he sold into slavery by his brothers, but later he was falsely accused of attempted rape, by his master's wife, and thrown into prison. He was forsaken by family and friends but he never felt that God had forsaken him. He knew that God would deliver him and see him vindicated. When he eventually was in a position of power and influence he was reunited with his brothers who had betrayed him. When they begged his forgiveness for the wrong they had done towards him, he answered them this way:

"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Genesis 50:20

Joseph was able to see God's hand in everything that he had to endure. When we belong to God He will watch over us and no matter what we face, no matter what we go through, no matter how hard life seems to get, we can be assured that it will all be brought around for our good to bless us. Just knowing that helps me when I am faced with a trial. Nobody enjoys going through trials but we know that every one of them has a purpose and God knows what that purpose is. He will care for us and He will never leave us alone in that trial. He'll walk it with us. He is the Friend who is closer than a brother. God bless.
