There Is Always a Choice

Each day we are faced with choices beginning in the morning with 'what am I going to wear today?' and continuing on throughout the day. We have to choose what we will have for breakfast or if we will just skip it all together. There is always a choice. We have millions of choices to make every day and what we choose effects how our life will be. If we choose to skip breakfast we'll probably be hungry by midmorning. If we made the choice to have breakfast then we'll probably be able to make it to lunch without feeling dragged down or sluggish. And that's only breakfast we have a whole day filled with choices ahead of us.

Every choice that we make has an effect on us and the sooner we realize that the sooner we can be careful with our choices and make wise ones. Now whether or not you choose to have a tuna fish sandwich over an egg salad sandwich at lunch time probably won't have lasting consequences on your life. But in other matters your choices can be very serious. Our choices in relationships can effect how our life will be. If we choose well and choose someone who encourages us, builds us up, supports us, loves us, cares for us, we will have a better life than if we choose someone who tears us down, berates us, and uses us poorly. It is always our choice.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 says this: " This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life..."

God sets the choice of life and death before us. We can choose life by following after Him and His ways. We choose life by the words of our mouth, the things we say. Do we speak positively or are we always negative, choosing to see the bad in every situation? We choose life when we choose to be positive. We choose life when we surround ourselves with positive people. But we choose death when we speak negatively. Every single word that we speak is a choice that we make. Every decision that we make is a choice. Every choice is like a tiller on a boat. Just as a tiller chooses which way the boat will go, so do our choices determine how our life will be.

When we realize how important our choices actually are we will be more careful in making every choice. Every action has a reaction. Every choice will have a consequence. Choose life this day in everything you do and say. Choose to honor God with your words and your actions and you will have life and life more abundantly.
