Matthew and Gabe

Matthew and Gabe are engaged! Matthew bought a beautiful, square cut solitaire diamond ring and presented it to Gabrielle Wendy Hatfield today at Stoney Island Beach, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia. In preparation, he carefully created eight treasure maps, each with burned edges and curled paper, and placed each one in a mason jar. He took Gabe to the beach and went ahead of her to hide the jars. Then he sent her on a quest to find the maps. Each one had a special message on it and the last one told her to turn around to start her adventure. When she did, Matthew was down on one knee and proposed to her. I'm so glad he did! She is a lovely, wonderful girl and I am so glad she is part of our family.

An engagement is the beginning of a grand adventure. Only God knows if they will have children or where they will live, what jobs they have, if they will own a house or any other details of their lives. But the most important aspect of their adventure is that they place God first in their relationship and they have. No matter what happens in their future, by placing God first, He will bless their lives and guide their decisions. He will watch over them and they will have nothing to fear, if they continue to trust in Him.

Its that way for all of us too. If we trust in the Lord, He will do right by us. One of my favourite portions of Scripture is found in Proverbs 3:5-6 which says:Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Before Matthew and Gabe started dating each prayed for a godly person to date. Before Matthew proposed, he prayed. Before we do anything we should pray and continue praying until we have direction. If we do, God will give it to us freely.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
