The Walk

Benjamin decided to take his beagle, Daisy Mae, for a walk yesterday. He told us he would only walk for a half hour and then turn around and come back. After he had been gone for quite a while Alannah decided to take her cocker spaniel, Lilly Rose, for a walk to meet up with Benjamin. Alannah had only walked up the second hill on the main road when Lilly Rose laid down and refused to go any further. Alannah begged her and encouraged her to keep on going but Lilly had made up her mind, she wasn't going another step. Once Alannah turned towards home the little cocker was happy and ran most of the way home.

After awhile Benjamin and Daisy came home. Poor little Daisy was pretty worn out. She was tired and shaky but she hadn't quit. They had walked 6.2 km and she wasn't accustomed to walking so far, but she hadn't quit and even though she was exhausted she would have kept on walking if Benjamin had wanted to. I was proud of her.

Sometimes we're like Lilly Rose, we come to a hill or a hard time in our life and we give up. We stop following the Lord. We say it's too hard and even though He encourages us with His Word and by His Spirit speaking to us, we give up even though He is still walking right beside us. We stop reading His Word. We stop listening to Him because we have allowed worry and anxiety into our thoughts and we stop going to church. We quit everything and give up.

Little Daisy Mae can teach us all a lesson in perseverance. Even though she was tired she still followed her master. She wanted to please him and she would not quit. She knew that she belonged to him and wherever he led she would follow. We need to determine in our hearts and our spirits that we will not stop following the Lord. Even though hardship comes into our life, we will still hold on to His hand and we won't quit.

We find comfort and direction in His Word so read it often. We will have direction in our life and be able to make wise decisions if we are listening for His voice. And we will grow spiritually if we attend  church and are fed the Word on a regular basis.

How is your walk? Have you given up like Lilly Rose or are you pushing on, even though you are tired, like Daisy Mae?

Where He Lead's I'll Follow

Words & Music: William A. Ogden, 1885

Sweet are the promises, kind is the word,
Dearer far than any message man ever heard;
Pure was the mind of Christ, sinless I see;
He the great example is, and pattern for me.

Refrain
Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow all the way.
Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow Jesus ev’ry day.

Sweet is the tender love Jesus hath shown,
Sweeter far than any love that mortals have known;
Kind to the erring one, faithful is He;
He the great example is, and pattern for me.

List to His loving words, “Come unto Me”;
Weary, heavy laden, there is sweet rest for thee;
Trust in His promises, faithful and sure;
Lean upon the Savior, and thy soul is secure.
