Half a Valentine

Can you imagine if your sweetheart gave you a beautiful, heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentine's Day and when you opened the box, half of them were missing? Or can you imagine if he gave you a bouquet of only stems with all the flowers missing? What if he gave you a solid chocolate heart candy with a great big bite taken out of the side of it?

Would you feel loved? Would you feel like he had given you his best? Or would you feel like he kept some of your present for himself? Of course you would. You might appreciate what he did give you but it would have been so much nicer if he had given it all to you.

What are you giving to God? Are you giving Him your whole heart, or are you holding some back for yourself? God has promised in His Word that we will find him; have relationship with Him, if we seek Him with ALL our heart (Jeremiah 29:13). God isn't looking for a people who are divided in their loyalties. He is looking for those who want to give Him everything; their whole heart.

Time and again we are encouraged in the Scriptures to seek God above all else and to do so with all our heart and we will be blessed.

1 Chronicles 22:19 Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
1 Chronicles 28:9 "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
Jeremiah 24:7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.
Amos 5:4 This is what the LORD says to the house of Israel: "Seek me and live;

Whenever God repeats Himself it is so we can understand that He is saying 'sit up and pay attention, you need to understand this that I am trying to teach you.' When we read verses like the ones here we can begin to understand that God wants us to give Him our whole heart but so many times we keep back some of it for other loves that we may have. When our loyalties are divided we are unstable. And when our loyalty to God is divided between Him and us trying to do things our own way, then our Christian walk will be shaky at best.

You don't have to wait for Valentine's Day to come around to think about hearts. Think about yours today. Are you giving it all to God? Or does the gift of your heart have half of it missing because you are holding a part of it back? Let me encourage you this day to give it all to the Lord. Seek Him with all your heart and He will be found by you. God bless.
