As most of you know we purchased our own home this past August and will no longer be living in a parsonage. We've not had to worry about vacating the parsonage by a certain time, so we have been gradually moving our things from one house to the other. Now that the bulk of the large items have been moved the excitement of transporting items has waned.
We live about twenty-five minutes from the parsonage so when one of us is going in that direction I tell them to make the trip count. Translated that means: swing by the parsonage and pick up something and bring it to our house. Sometimes this is met with groans because doing a move this way, while it makes the loads lighter, it does become a boring chore after awhile. But all of us have done it and we try to make every trip count. In fact after my ladies morning Bible study class, today, I will be going to the parsonage and loading up another few bags of things to move.
As Christians we need to make every trip count as well. We need to make the most of every opportunity we are presented with to share the Gospel. We need to look for those who need a kindness shown or a word of encouragement given. Sometimes we have to go out of our way, away from our normal routine, to find someone who needs to hear that there is hope for their situation.
2 Timothy 4:2 exhorts us to "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction." We 'preach' the Word every day by our actions and our words. We have to be careful that we are living what we are preaching, otherwise we have wasted an opportunity to positively influence someone for the Kingdom.
But we can't 'preach' the Word if we don't know the Word. So let me encourage you today to read and know the Word of God: the Bible, and live it. Then look for opportunities to tell others about Him and His wonderful love that He has given to us. Make every trip to the store, or to the library, or to work, count for God.
We know all about making every trip count.... Nice the way you put that in the spiritual realm.... Thanx for shaing. ~. Pat ~
