Today's The Day

What if you were told that you only had one day left of your life? What would you do? What would you say to your loved ones? Would you try to right old wrongs and let grievances die? Would you ask for and extend forgiveness? So many times someone will pass unexpectedly and we are left wishing we had spent more time with them or told them how much we love them. We are left with regrets of all the things we should have said or should have done instead of sweet memories and clear consciences.

Why should we wait until someone has died to say nice things about them? Why not say them now? Why should we wait for the other person to make the first move? What if they never do? We can fool ourselves into thinking that we have plenty of time to work on our relationships or to tell that friend that we have forgiven them, but the truth is, sometimes we don't. None of us knows when our time on earth is through so we need to make every day count. We need to live like every day could be our last.

If we truly knew that today was our last day on earth, I believe, or at least I hope, that most of us would call that person we haven't spoken to in years and make it right with them. I believe we would surround ourselves with our family and tell them how much they mean to us. I believe that we would try to impart any last bit of wisdom we could to help them on their life journey. I think we would all live our life differently than we do every day, when we think we have all the time in the world.

Why not make today the day that you live with no regrets? Just imagine how much freedom would come to you if you no longer held onto grudges. How much better your life could be if you gave forgiveness and humbled yourself to ask for it in turn. Today could be the day that your family knows how much you love them. Today could be the day that you reach out in love to everyone around you. Think of the peace you'll have when you've done all the things and said all the things you know you should. Peace and freedom: two attainable gifts that are yours if you make today the day when you love not only in word but in deed. God bless.

"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

(1 John 3:18)
