While browsing through Pinterest I came across a Life Magazine picture of a father and daughter playing horsie. Immediately, I was taken back to the countless horsie rides my father would give each of us kids every night when he came home from work. Yes, he was probably tired after a long day at work but he was never too busy for us. After supper was finished and his newspaper was read, he would get down on all fours and we would climb onto his back for a horsie ride, usually one at a time, but sometimes he'd take two of us at once. There was nobody stronger than Dad, in our eyes. He'd buck and rear up to excited squeals and laughter. Then the 'horsie' would lay down and we'd fall off his back. Horsie rides were over for another night. What happy memories my father made for us.
I am so thankful that I have such wonderful memories. Memories of my father not only playing horsie but teaching us to ride our bikes and to swim and many other things as well. We knew we could always go to him; that no matter what he was doing it could wait until he helped us with what we needed. He never came home from work grumpy or even brought work home with him. We grew up feeling that when he was home, he was truly home with us not just physically but mentally too. My father's attention to his children perfectly mirrors our Heavenly Father's love towards us, His children. He is never too busy to hear our prayer. He is as close as the mention of His name. He loves to be with us and share our lives.
I wish everyone in the world had an earthly dad as great as mine but I know that they haven't. My relationship with my Dad prepared me for a relationship with my Heavenly Father. But even if you haven't had such a great earthly dad, you can have a fantastic, awesome, wonderful relationship with God, our Heavenly Father. Reach out to Him today. He's waiting for you.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. James 4:8
