Just Let Go and Trust Him

Psalm 37:3-7

Trust in the Lord and do good;
    dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
    your vindication like the noonday sun.
Be still before the Lord
    and wait patiently for him;

What wonderful instructions the psalmist gives us in these few verses. Not only does he tell us what we should be doing but he goes on to say what God will do for us if we do our part. Just look at the first part, it says 'trust in the Lord and do good', then 'take delight in the Lord', and what will God do? He will 'give you the desires of your heart'.

We are surrounded on all sides by people who are trying to get what they want out of life. It seems to be the goal of just about every person. We all have desires and dreams and things we'd like to have. Well, here the psalmist tells us how to achieve the desires of our heart: trust the Lord, do good and find your delight or joy in the things of the Lord. If you do, He will bless you with the things your heart desires. It sounds pretty simple doesn't it? It is, but we're not always so willing to trust God at His word.

In verse five the psalmist tells us to make a commitment to the Lord and to trust Him and if we do, He will make our righteousness or our testimony evident for all to see. He will make sure we are vindicated if we are wrongly accused. In other words: He'll stick up for us.

Finally, the psalmist reminds us to be patient and wait for the Lord to work on our behalf. Sometimes we can become so impatient that we fail to pray and wait for God. We take matters into our own hands and try to make things happen. We think we know how things should be worked out but our ways are never as good as God's are. If we would only learn to trust in God and wait for Him, our lives would be so much better than they are when we rely on ourselves and do things our own way.

God has not forgotten you. He loves you and He longs to work in your life and in your situation, but you must let go and stop trying to solve all your problems yourself. You have to trust Him. Just let go and trust Him and see what He will do!
