Unwanted

We have a new addition to our family. Maggie Mae is a two year old Basset Hound who needed a home and our home was missing  a Maggie Mae. I know some people have thought we're crazy, after all we already have Duke, a Basset Hound, and Lilly Rose, a Cocker Spaniel and on some days we even babysit our son's dog Daisy Mae, a Beagle. So we have enough dogs, but when I looked into those soulful eyes in Maggie's picture I knew she belonged to us.

Maggie is one of the most loving dogs I've ever known. She loves to cuddle and lay on your lap and if you stop rubbing her belly she'll nudge your arm so that you know to continue. She loves to be touched and near people. At night she curls up by my pillow and puts her face as close to mine as she can. She just wants to be loved. When someone comes to the door she's the first one out to greet them. She loves making new friends. Knowing what she's like its hard for me to imagine why anyone would sell her. Apparently we are her fifth owners and we are her last. She'll stay with us for the rest of her life and she'll have a good life where she's wanted.

We all want to be loved and to be wanted. We all seek acceptance and approval and who doesn't like to have a warm welcome when you come into a room? We all do. We are social creatures. We are built for relationship. God made us this way because He seeks relationship with us as well.. God created everything, absolutely everything, but something was still missing. So He created man so He could have companionship. We were made to have a relationship with God.

At one time of our life or another we have all felt unwanted or unloved. We may have felt rejected by those around us. We may have yearned for their approval and acceptance but didn't receive it. But there is one relationship that will never be rejected and that is our relationship with the Lord. So many times we have rejected Him. We refuse His offer of friendship and go our own way. But He is a friend like no other. He will 'never leave nor forsake' us. He will always love us, always care for us, always want to hear from us. He loves us and we are wanted by Him.

God loves you. He really does. You may not have another soul on this earth who cares about you but He does. You don't have to feel unwanted and unloved any more. God loves you. He has a plan for your life. Just like He knew that our Maggie would find a permanent home with us, He knows that you can have a permanent home with Him if you choose to have a relationship with Him.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb .… Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13, 16 NIV)

God knows everything about you and still He loves you. You will never have such complete acceptance from any other relationship. He loves you. You are wanted. You are loved. You are cherished.

  1. Beautifully written. Your post reminds me of my very first scripture I wrote in my journal, "My soul finds rest in God alone; My salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will never be shaken." Psalm 62 1-2
