A Simple Formula For Success

Everyone wants to be successful. I have never heard of one person saying 'I hope this doesn't work' or 'I want to be a failure'. Of course not. That would be ridiculous. We all want to succeed in our career. We may never have aspirations of being the next CEO but we would still like to make a good living and have some measure of success.

How we go about that journey to success defines who we are as a person. It can be a difficult struggle to climb that corporate ladder. But it isn't just our career we want to be successful at. We want to succeed relationally as well and I believe this is even more of a challenge than our career. As humans we were wired to desire human contact. We all want to matter to someone and when we find that 'someone' we feel as if we have succeeded.

Some of us desire to have children and be successful as parents. We want our children to succeed and we set about trying to make that happen. No matter what area of your life you want to be successful in there is a simple formula that God has put in place to guarantee your success. It's found in His word.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Psalm 1:1-3 ESV

Did you read that last part? IN ALL THAT HE DOES, HE PROSPERS. Wow! That's quite a promise. But who prospers? He that finds his delight or in other words, LOVES, God's Word and follows it. He will prosper if he meditates on it day and night. In other words you will prosper if you make God's Word part of your life and seek to follow it all the time.

But there is more to this verse: you will be blessed and live a blessed life, if you don't follow the advice of ungodly people or socialize with ungodly people or fall into the same conversations that disrespectful people engage in. We need to be a holy people because God is holy. It's time for us to stop playing games with God. We've all tried to be successful on our own now it's time to do things God's way and when we do we will prosper in all that we do.
