Right or Wrong? Whose Opinion Are You Listening to?

No matter where we are, we are surrounded by messages, opinions and agendas on every subject under Heaven. TV, the Internet, billboards, newspapers and the radio all have their opinions of what is right and wrong. We are being inundated with so many messages that it can be hard to quiet all the noise surrounding us so we can find out the truth.

What once was regarded as wrong, or sin, no longer is. This is the world we live in. However "wrong does not become right just because it is accepted by a majority....truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth...." I read this today and thought I'd share it. Our world is upside down but then we have been told this would happen.

"How terrible it will be for those who call evil good and good evil, who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness, who substitute what is bitter for what is sweet and what is sweet for what is bitter!" Isaiah 5:20

It can be hard, with so many people accepting popular opinion as truth, to know what to believe anymore. This is Satan's goal. Confusion. If he can cause you to doubt what you believe and to go along with the crowd then he has been successful.

We need to be in the Word, searching the Scriptures to find the truth. It's absolutely imperative that we teach our children the truth. If we want to know if something is wrong we need to find out what God says about it. His opinion is the only one that counts. Maybe that sounds too hard for you to accept. Maybe you think the Bible is outdated and doesn't apply to our world today, but it does.

The Bible is our guidebook. Our instruction book. It tells us how to have a full, abundant life. If we follow it, we will be blessed. It really is that simple: if you want to live a blessed life follow after what God says to be true.

By nature we are all rebellious. The Word tells us that we are all 'born in sin and shappened in iniquity' (Psalm 51:5). It's Adam and Eve's fault, if you feel the need to blame anyone. We rebell against rules, guidelines, laws. It's our nature but we don't have to stay that way. Christ tells us that 'any man who is in Me is a new creation . Old ways are passed away and all things have become new' (2 Cor. 5:17). In other words God gives us another chance to do things His way.

Do you remember when you were a kid and your parents told you not to do something but your friends convinced you to go ahead and do it? I think we've probably all been there at one time or another. How many times did you end up wishing you had listened to your parents instead of listening to your friends? Our parents warned us not to do something, whatever it was, because they were older and wiser than we were and they knew the consequences.

God knows the consequences of our stubborn wilfulness too that's why He warns us to "abstain from the very appearance of evil." (1 Thess. 5:22) He doesn't want to see us hurt by the consequences of sin. So He laid out guidelines, rules or laws if you will, in His Word. It's now up to us to read it and follow it.

Once you tune out what the world is telling you is right and start listening to what God says is right, you'll probably find yourself in the minority, sadly even among Christains. But that doesn't matter, do what is right, according to God, anyway and maybe others will follow.

Following what God says is not being religious or holier than thou. It's not even telling others how they should live. It's a personal decision. Just as Joshua said to the people of Israel "choose this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:14-15). Have you made that decision? Test yourself to see. What is your opinion on abortion? Adultery? Murder? Gossip? Lying? Etc, etc, etc. Now, go to the Word of God and see what God says about these things. Next align your thinking with His.

The world we live in will have an excuse for every sin you can think of. That's what we, as a society does, with sin: we explain it away with excuses. But God is calling us to be separate from the world, to be different. He tells us to "come out of the world and be separate" (2 Cor. 6:17).

Searching for the truth is like searching for buried treasure. It will take time and commitment on your part to search the Bible to see what it says about the issues you are confused about, but this buried treasure is well worth the search and God will reveal Himself to you as you search for Him.

"you will find Me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13)
God bless.
