Family Adventure Day

We left home this morning at 5:45am with both dog kennels in the back of the van and the five of us. Matthew had to be at the Yarmouth hospital at 7:00 am to have surgery at 8:00 to remove a tumor on his ear lobe which formed when he had his ear pierced when he was twelve. He came through that fine, although it hurts alot. Brad was able to do his hospital visits and then we hit the road.
We headed to Meteghan, first, to the original Frenchy's store. Frenchy's is a chain of second hand clothing stores in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The clothes all come from the northeastern United States and most are really nice brand name items and some still have the tags attached. Going Frenchy-ing is something we all love to do. We love to search for that one great treasure that we ordinarily couldn't have afforded at full price. And today we found quite a few treasures and spent very little money.
After Meteghan, we continued up the 'french shore' to Digby and went to the two great Frenchy's there. We had lunch at the Irving Big Stop Restaurant and decided to work our way back to Yarmouth. We stopped in Weymouth and Saulnierville at the Frenchy's there and once we were back in Yarmouth and had a quick stop at the Dollar Store, we went to the 'airport' Frenchy's (the other one isn't worth stopping at).
At each stop we got the dogs out and ran them around, gave them water and food and reloaded them. Lilly, being a mature two yr old, loves to travel and is quiet. Daisy, being a very active six month old, isn't. But today she did well, bless her little heart. She only 'sang', as beagles do, for a little while and then was quiet.
Finally we headed for Cape Island. During the day Brad got a call on his cell phone asking him to do a funeral on Thursday, so he had to stop at the house to get a few things. But what a wonderful way to spend the day as a family. We did something we love. We were all together from 5:45 am to 7:00 pm when we got home. We had lots of time to talk and tell stories and everything else that goes along with an adventure day.
We had a wonderful day of laughing and teasing and singing everything from very sad hurting songs, like 'If tomorrow never comes', to 'sic him on a chicken' (don't ask). We all realized how precious these times are because we have so few of them. Our family is at the point where things are changing and will be over the next few years. Our children are growing up and they won't always have the time for a 'Frenchy's run' with us. But for this moment in time, we had our children and our dogs all together with us and we had a road trip. We are blessed!
