Fire Bug

There is something about being around a camp fire that is pretty special. I don't know what it is exactly, whether it is the warmth or the sounds of the crackling wood or maybe it is the bright colours that dance and leap in the flames. It's mesmerizing to say the least. I have a fire pit in the back yard that consists of an old washer drum with cinder blocks stacked around it, a few beach rocks scattered around and a large park bench stationed in front of it. It is my special spot that I love to go to. It's peaceful there, it's quiet and it can be my alone time or I can share it with others and still be perfectly happy there.
I love to build a fire. Not everyone can you know. There is a knack to it. But I have learned from the best. My Dad can build a fire anywhere and get it to burn. He just has the knack or the patience. You need both. I have built fires in the heat of a summer day, when it was so hot that I had to back quite far away from it. But I still enjoyed it. I have built fires in the dead of winter with the snow all around. I have built huge fires on the beach with the waves crashing in the background and the darkness settling all around me and I think I like those ones best.
There is something welcoming about a fire. It attracts others to it. Not everyone gets it. Not everyone is a fire bug and frankly they don't understand why others are. Maybe they have their quiet time in some other activity, but mine is when I build a fire. I have the time to sit back and relax and reflect on the goodness of God. It is my sanctuary. That little circle of light, the sound of the waves and the fire, the coolness of the air around me and the warmth of the fire on my face. Yes, that is my sanctuary.
Are you a fire bug? Is that where you are alone with God? Where is your special sanctuary? Have you made one yet? Let me encourage you today to find a place where you can be alone with God. A place of solitude and quiet. Allow this peace to permeate your soul and refresh you. Acts 3:19
"times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;"
