At one time in my life I was a department buyer for several jewelry stores that belonged to the same chain. I was always amazed at how little the general public knew of fine jewelry and how willing they were to part with their hard earned cash for anything that glittered. It didn't matter to many of them, if the bauble they had their eye on, was real or not, as long as it sparkled. So, many of them were content to have a cubic zirconia for a cheap price, a quick fix for their need of glamour, rather than a genuine diamond that they may have to save up for, but would look just as beautiful fifty years from now as it did on the day they purchased it.
But so you don't think I am being too hard on the general public, it is difficult to tell a fake from the real deal. Many times it takes several tests to tell if the stone is man made or creator made. On the Moh's scale of hardness, a diamond is a 10, the strongest gem there is. A diamond can cut glass, it is durable, dependable and will always look the same. Just about any stone will look good in a jewelers case under bright, halogen lights, but only a real stone will look good in any light.
What are you? Are you the real thing or just an imitation? Are you durable and dependable like a real diamond? Or are you showing one face in public and another when you are by yourself? Do people think you are living for the Lord because you've been in church your whole life and you know how to polish yourself up to fool them? Or are you the real thing?
Psalm 19:14 says " Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
Are the words of your mouth words that the Lord would be pleased to hear? Or would you be ashamed if you found Him listening? We must make sure that who we show to the world is the person who we say we are. We have to be the real thing. But just like I said that a real diamond will look good in any light, so must we. How do we speak in private? What about in emails or text messages, do we use abbreviations for words that we should never even be thinking of? We have to make sure that if we are calling ourselves a Christian that we are speaking as one and acting as one whether it is in the bright lights of public or in the dim lights of when we are alone . A filthy mouth is not pleasing in God's sight. Careless words hurt the heart of God and can cause someone to feel that all Christians are phonies.
Sometimes I think we forget that Christ is watching, but more importantly He knows the 'meditation of my heart'. We may be able to fool some people with a good outward appearance but the Lord knows our heart. He knows if we are the real thing or not. Careless living is a slippery slope for anyone, but for the Christian it is deadly. If we do not check the little things in our lives we can some day come to our senses and realize that we are far away from God.
It's easy to fall into the trap of a careless word or a critical attitude. But as Christians we must always be on our guard against the subtle tactics of the enemy of our soul and if we find that we have relaxed our guard we need to quickly repent and run back to the Father. He will take us back and clean us up to begin again. May the words of our mouths always be acceptable to the Father whether we are alone or with others. God bless you all.
