Peaches and Cream

I know this will come as a shock to most of you....(tongue in cheek)..... but a pastor's family's life is not always peaches and cream. Shock!?!? My husband had one 'problem' phone call this afternoon, then one (from the same person) at 5:40 as we were walking out the door for church, then a confrontation by the same person immediately following the fantastic service that we had tonight and finally at 10:35 PM tonight! Yup, that has a way of cramping your day.
Through it all my sweet husband was even keeled and offered words of comfort and understanding but it was to no avail because this horse had the bit in it's mouth and was running. No correction was going to be given and no comfort received because of a stubborn attitude. How sad! All that was accomplished was misery. How happy Satan must be!
This whole sad situation reminded me of how sad God must feel when we take matters in our own hands and think that our way is the best way. Or when we have a stubborn attitude that we know better than He does of what we need in our life. How foolish! How happy Satan must be when we don't rely on God. How happy he must be when we refuse godly advice and wisdom from those God has placed around us.
We are told in Psa 111:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever." I don't think anyone sets out in life to be foolish. Most people, when asked, would say that they would like to be wise. But where does wisdom come from? It comes from the Lord and it begins with a healthy fear of the Lord.
Some people would have you believe that to fear the Lord means to respect Him, but I believe it goes much deeper than just respect. It means that you fully understand that He literally holds your next breath in His hand and can at His will decided to give it to you or not. He is God. He is over all things. Having said that, it does tend to make me wonder if we truly appreciate the awesomness of God when we blatantly 'do our own thing', 'go our own way' and 'do what we want to do' even if it is contrary to what we know God teaches in His Word. Just wondering.....
But God is faithful and patient and long suffering and He knows us inside and out. He knows the intents of our hearts. Only He can look past the appearances. Only He can ignore the words spoken in haste. Only He sees our heart. I am so glad He is full of mercy towards me and He is to you too. He is good, we are not, but He sees us as good through the blood of the Lamb.
So, no, life may not be all peaches and cream and some of the foolish things a pastor has to deal with, you would probably just shake your head over. But it is nothing compared with what the Lord has to deal with. I am so glad He is patient with me.
