All my life I have dreamed of one day being able to go to Africa. I don't know why, maybe it was the stories that missionaries carried home to us of that exotic land or maybe it was growing up watching nature shows and reading National Geographic. Whatever it was that birthed this dream in me, sure did a good job. I have wanted to go and now I am going!
A month or so ago Alannah and I were approached and asked if we would let our names be put forward for consideration to be chaperones for a school trip, and today we found out that we have been chosen. I really didn't think that we would be, because surely there were others who would let their name stand. But for whatever reason, Alannah and I were chosen and we're pretty excited. The trip is being organized through Me to We, an organization that connects grade 12 students here with a work project in another part of the world. We will be building a school in Kenya! I am so excited!
We will be going in March 2012. We have an information meeting to attend in Yarmouth on Nov.7th so I will know more then and will be able to share with you. But I do know that it will be a life changing experience for all of us who are going. We will be together as a group for 9 days and it's important that I always exhibit the love of Christ to these young people. We will have 9 days to leave a lasting impression on Kenyan children who we will probably never see again. This is so much bigger than just building a school!
I covet your prayers. We will each have to raise approximately $3800. which will cover our airfare, meals, accommendations (we're sleeping in tents!!) and project money (I think). As I said I will have more details later. But I do know that we will sleep in tents inside a 10 ft high fence with razor wire on the top and that the organization has 'never had any major incident' (??). So please help us by praying the necessary funds will come in and pray for our safety. We have 17 months to prepare but it comforts me to know that God has already been going ahead of us preparing the path He wants us to follow.
Did I ever mention that God will give you the desires of your heart? "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 He is an amazing God. He is giving us this golden opportunity to show others His love in action and He is opening the doors for us. What an adventure it is serving Him!!
Congrats to you and Alannah, let me know if there is anything you need my help in.Love you

ReplyDeletethanks so much girls! This is all God's doing. We were asked if we would be willing, we wrote the necessary letters and left it up to God whether we would be chosen or not and He opened the door.
