The Breath of God

Gen 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And
the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of
the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

On Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 we went to Northeast point, Cape Sable Island, so Matthew could take some pictures of the beautiful waves crashing on the shore and these verses came to me. The Lord wanted me to learn something. While Matthew was off climbing the dunes to get the perfect picture, the Lord brought my attention to the golden grasses on the dunes. It was amazing how they rippled and moved with the wind. They had the breath of God moving upon them. I felt so close to God at that moment.

We cannot see the wind but we can see what it does. It’s all around us and it can touch us, but we cannot touch it or see it. We cannot see God either but yesterday I saw His breath and He breathed on those grasses and He breathed on me. He surrounded me and caressed me with his breath.

So many people say ‘if only I could see God, then I would believe’, when
He is there all the time. He surrounds us with His creation. He speaks to
us in His thunder. Thunder is called the voice of God.

Job 37:2-4 “Listen, all of you, to the voice of God, to the thunder that
comes from his mouth. He sends the lightning across the sky, from one
end of the earth to the other. Then the roar of his voice is heard, the
majestic sound of thunder, and all the while the lightning flashes.”

We see His breath in the wind and in the frost. Everything that we see has been made by God and has His touch on it. When we see His creation, we see Him. When we feel the wind, we feel the breath of God.

Job 37:10 “The breath of God freezes the waters, and turns them to solid ice.”

I have gone to the beach countless times before but that day the Lord
spoke to me and said ‘look at Me’. He drew my attention to the wind
blowing the grasses and once I had awakened to the realization that it
was His breath that moved the grasses, I began to look for Him
everywhere. I saw Him laughing with every wave that splashed against
the shore and tossed the water high into the air. God laughed.

His Word has promised that we will find Him if we seek Him with all of
our heart.

Jer 29:13 “And you shall seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me
with all your heart”.

In order to search you have to be looking, but He has promised that if
you look you will find Him. What a wonderful promise! Look for Him, He
wants you to find Him. He is there. He is so close that His very breath
surrounds you every time that you feel the wind. Don’t be like so many
people and dismiss it as just being ‘nature’. It is God and He is here.

That day I saw the breath of God and I was humbled at His greatness.
What a beautiful picture He painted for me: The gold of the grasses, the
many shades of blue of the sea, the gray and white of the sand and the
speckled rocks. How beautiful is His creation! How beautiful is He!
