Let Go and Let God

Abraham was called a friend of God, David was called a man after God’s own heart, yet these two special men had no idea how God would take them, from what they knew, to places they had not only never even dreamed of but could not even imagine.
Abraham had a good life in Ur, he had the most beautiful woman in the land as his wife. He had possessions and prestige and probably thought he had it made. He was pretty secure. But God had other plans for Abraham, plans that even Abraham himself had probably never wished for or for that matter, even wanted at the time.
God told Abraham to leave the comfort of his life in Ur and go on an adventure with Him. And Abraham listened and headed out into the great unknown with God as his guide. God told Abraham that He would make his seed, his family, be a greater number than the stars or the sand on the sea shore. I’m sure Abraham never expected something like that considering that at the time he had yet to have even one child. Yet Abraham listened to God and believed him.

However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"—"
(1 Corinthians 2:9)

What a great verse of promise! Abraham loved God and God did things for him that he never could have imagined. He will do the same for us, if we allow Him. How silly we are when we think we have our life all tied up in a neat little package with a neat little bow! How God must laugh or just shake His head. Our expectations, our dreams, our desires, our thoughts, they are all so minute, so tiny in the eyes of God.
This verse states clearly that we have never seen or heard of or understood what God has in store for those who love Him. Isn’t that wonderful?

I think it’s important for us to realize that Abraham had to leave his ‘tied up with a pretty bow life’ and let go of it to receive his blessing from God. We do too. We need to stop trying to be ‘self made people’ and become ‘God made people’. We need to let go of that false security of ‘self’ and launch out with God, where we will truly be secure.

God is waiting for us to completely trust Him like Abraham did. He is waiting for us to let go and let Him. He’s watching for the opportunity to bless us.

2Ch 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. When we look at David, a man after God’s own heart we see a successful King. But David was only a shepherd boy, the youngest in his family. There’s not much prestige in that. Yet David had something going for him that apparently none of his other brothers did: David loved God completely and listened to God. David’s heart was perfect towards God and it’s that kind of a heart that God delights in and wants to use.

God took young David, the shepherd boy and made him into a great king. No matter which great person we see, in the Bible, if we look back to where they began, they all began as regular, ordinary people. Just like us.

Moses was born to a Hebrew slave yet became a prince of Egypt and then the leader of God’s people who lead them out of bondage. Esther was just a little Jewish girl who God chose to use to save His people and He made her a queen. Joseph was one of the two youngest in his family, whose job it was to take lunch to his older brothers, yet God made him prime-minister over all Egypt. And we could go on and on with one example after another but you get the point.

These were regular, ordinary people who loved God with all their hearts and listened to Him. God called them to greatness. God is calling each of us to greatness. He is calling us to let go of the temporal things that we have surrounded ourselves with for security and to completely trust in Him.

Remember His eyes are going to and fro over all the earth looking for ways to show His strength to us. I want His eyes to rest on me. I don’t want Him to have to search for someone who loves Him with all their heart. I want Him to find that person in me. Lord let your eyes rest on me.

Are you willing to let go of the security of your life, like Abraham? Are you willing to dream God’s dreams for your life? Or are you content in the life you have made for yourself and find that if you color outside the lines and follow God’s leading, it would be too scary? God is looking over all the earth for those who not only say they love Him, but are willing to show they love Him by trusting Him completely.

When you let go of everything that you are holding on to so tightly for security and completely lose your will in His, He will show you things you never could have imagined. He will take you on such an adventure that your life will never be the same. What’s holding you back from the blessings God wants to give you? Ur and security was holding Abraham back so God asked him to leave his birthplace. What’s holding you back? Has God told you, maybe years ago, a dream He had for your life? The dream is still there, He is waiting to show it to you once again. Will you trust Him? Will you let go of whatever is holding you back and allow Him to bless you?

God is searching for people who will let go and trust Him completely. Will you be that person?
