I Belong

"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household,"
(Ephesians 2:19

When I was growing up and my Dad was working for the federal government, we moved every three years or so, until I was 10 and we had our final move from which he eventually retired. When we made a move there was always that feeling of adjustment, that you didn't quite belong. New friends had to be sought out, a new school had to be navigated, and a new church family to be found. Sometimes the kids wore different clothes than you did. Sometimes they played different games. And until we discovered more about the people of this new place, we sometimes felt like we didn't belong.

When I grew up and married, my husband and I had a major move and left Canada for Tennessee for four years. The people spoke differently than we did, they cooked differently, sometimes they dressed differently. Again those feelings of adjustment were thrust on me all over again. But I found one place where I belonged and that was with God's people. We might have been from different countries or provinces but wherever God's people can be found, we have one very important thing in common: we serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and we belong.

No matter where you find yourself in this world, you will probably feel out of place because our "citizenship is not of this world", we belong to a heavenly kingdom and there are many, many other members of God's household all over the world. Someday we will all experience the best 'homecoming' the world has ever seen. Just imagine what it will be like when we walk through that gate that's made of a single pearl and see that street made of gold and be surrounded by 'family' everywhere! We will finally be in that place where we belong.

Until that day if you find yourself feeling alone or facing a move, seek out God's people and you will no longer be 'foreigners and aliens' not belonging, not fitting in. You will be HOME. God bless.
