One of Those Days

Have you ever had 'one of those days'? I did today. I had two women cancel their reservations with our upcoming ladies retreat, that I am organizing and while they both had very good reasons it was still a problem that needed fixing. I had to call the resort, and try to get their money back at the last minute (less than 24 hrs from the start of the conference). I had ordered a Tilley hat for my husband for his birthday and instead of sending me the hat that I had ordered, I got someone else's order and now have five, yes five, Tilley hats in my possession and none of them the colour I need! I had words with my son, which is never pleasant and is always over something extremely stupid, (don't worry we patched it up). And then I got a call saying that I have an appointment with a gynaecologist ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!! Think it can't get any worse? Oh, I'm sure it can, it's only 5:00, I still have five more hours before bedtime!

I am ranting, I know, but what is a blog if not to be able to express your feelings? What's that, a pastor's wife shouldn't be so open?  I'm not perfect. I have faults, many of them to think of it. I have bad days just like everyone else and today is one of them. But in my bad day there are still phone calls that I must take and be pleasant and there are still duties and obligations that I must perform with a smile on my face. After all it's not everyone's fault that I had a bad day. Why should they pay for that? They still deserve a smile.

Life happens. The rain falls on the just and the unjust. Some people feel that if you are serving the Lord that life should be all roses and sunshine but it isn't that way. It's what you do with those bad days that counts. All day long I have been telling myself 'this too shall pass'. We don't stay in bad days, but our attitudes can keep us in one for a very long time if we let it. We need to ask for forgiveness when we have wronged someone and we need to give forgiveness when it is asked of us. We need to find time to be alone with the Lord and allow Him to calm our spirit and minister to us. And we need to remind ourselves that the Lord is with us and will never leave us.

I'm sorry if I have burst your bubble as to what a pastor's wife's life should be like and I am sorry if you think less of me for my rant. But let me encourage you that when you have bad days, get over them quickly and move on. Don't hold on to confusion and unforgiveness. Let it go. Seek peace and restoration. Life is busy, take time to quiet yourself before the Lord.

Psalm 30:5
weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Matthew 5:45
He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Colossians 3:13
Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.
