THANKSGIVING

I woke this morning just before 6am and laid there thanking the Lord for all He has blessed me with over the past year. I have much to be thankful for. Over the past year our two sons have proposed to beautiful Christian girls and have been accepted. Matthew has started college and is doing well. Benjamin is seeing his church growing both spiritually and numerically.

Alannah has grown into a beautiful, godly woman who is a joy to be with.I have enjoyed watching her explore her creativity and develop new talents. I am thankful for the bond which is between us. She is such a blessing to me. I thanked God for blessing us with our first home in seventeen years, Beth Haran, House of Grace, our refuge.

I thanked Him for Gabe, Matthew's fiancee, and how hard she studies at university and how she stands up for her faith and witnesses to others. I thanked God for Verny, Ben's fiancee, and how she is doing so well at her piano lessons and how she wants to use that talent to minister in the church.

I had a long list to thank Him for. I thanked Him for my parents and the fact that I still have them with me and can see them so often. I even thanked Him for Lilly Rose and Daisy Mae, our two dogs. I thanked Him for our church family and the blessing that they are. I thanked Him for Benjamin's church which chose to bless us with a grocery shower last night for Thanksgiving.

I have so many things to be thankful for and could have laid in bed all day listing them off for the Lord but He already knows how thankful I am. He has blessed me abundantly over and over again. But beyond all these blessings I am thankful for salvation. When I think of how lost mankind was after Adam and Eve sinned and how God could have turned His back on His creation and given up in disgust and yet didn't but instead gave us another chance to be reconciled to Him, I am just overwhelmed. His grace is truly amazing. It is our greatest gift, our greatest blessing.

Yes, I am thankful for all the 'things' He gives me and does for me, but most of all I am thankful for Him. I have a personal relationship with the God of all creation and that wouldn't have been possible if He hadn't have been willing to restore man. God took pity of us and sent His Son to die as the payment for our sins so we could have forgiveness and eternal life. THAT'S what I have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, salvation. Salvation that didn't cost me a thing but cost God His Only Begotten Son, Jesus. Salvation that I didn't deserve, couldn't earn or buy. A free gift, a free blessing, that cost Him so much but me: nothing. I am thankful.
