Dream

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
Harriet Tubman

When I was a young girl I read the story of Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was born a slave and had a terrible life as such. One of her first responsibilities was to watch over the master's baby. If the baby awoke and cried, Harriet was whipped. On one particular morning she had been whipped five times before lunch time. She was put in an impossible situation which only helped to strengthen her resolve to some day be free. She had a dream.

Her life was hard but she knew how to dream for something better. She had a deep faith in God because of the Bible stories her mother had told her as a child. She was a woman who prayed and believed that God would hear and answer her prayers. At one time, because her master had intended to sell her, she prayed that the Lord would change her master's heart. When that didn't work and he was still intent on finding a buyer, she prayed that the Lord would kill him. A week later her master died. Harriet repented of her prayer and prayed more wisely after that.

None of us could ever say our lives are as hard as Harriet Tubman's was yet sometimes we forget to dream. Sometimes we are afraid to dream, afraid to hope, afraid to take a chance. Yet Harriet did. She not only escaped to the northern states and became a free woman, but she returned to the south again and again over a period of eleven years to help other slaves to freedom. She never gave up the dream.

Sometimes our dreams don't come true as fast as we'd like them to. But we can't let go of the dream. We must keep on hoping, keep on dreaming, keep on trusting that the dream will come true some day. Against great odds Harriet realized her dream of being free and helped others do the same. What is standing in your way? Does the mountain that is standing in your path seem impassable? It isn't! Don't let go of the dream.

Walt Disney once said 'if you can dream it, you can do it' and I believe that with God's help that is true. Philippians 4:13 says "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." God is the giver of dreams. He will plant a dream in your heart and give you the desire to see it through. There may be obstacles in your way. The people around you may not understand or believe in your dream but don't give up. If you put your trust in  the Lord and allow Him to guide you, He will equip you and help you achieve your dreams.

And Jesus said to him, "'If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes." Mark 9:23
