Way back in 1998 I had started a Slim Fast diet, you know those yummy shakes that you drink twice a day and then eat a sensible supper. I had met, Mendy, a Christian woman through the friend support section of the Slim Fast home page and we instantly hit it off. Both of our husbands were involved in ministry and we shared many similar goals and dreams. We both home schooled our children, she having two boys and me having two boys and a girl.
We would often email each other encouraging words and would lift each other up in prayer. Over the years we have both given up on the diet but we have become and have remained good friends. We have never seen each other in person, face to face, and we've often talked about how nice it would be for our families to get together to finally meet. With the advent of Facebook, we can now share photos and recipes and have a more personal friendship. I don't know if we will ever get to meet here on earth because we live so far away from each other but I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that someday we will be together in Heaven because we have both named Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord.
You might be thinking that its impossible to have a true friend whom you have never met face to face, but I know that Mendy is my friend and I am hers. We have the common bond of Christ which makes us sisters which is better than just friends. I know that I can email her at any time and ask her to pray and she will. I know she lifts me up in prayer and prays for my family as I do hers. I am thankful that God allowed our paths to cross so many years ago.
I have never seen Jesus face to face either but He is a friend Who sticks closer than a brother (Prov.18:24). I know He is with me every day. I can hear His voice as He speaks to me through His Word. And although I can't see him in person right now, I know that someday I will. One day there will be nothing between us and we shall behold Him! The Scriptures attest to this fact and I believe the Word of God to be without error. It's true! You can count on it! There is coming a day when we shall see Him face to face and what a day that will be!
1 Corinthians 13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
Job 19:26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;
1 John 3:2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Mendy and I must content ourselves with a long distance friendship for now, but when we are in Heaven we will be able to see each other all the time and more importantly we will be with our Saviour Who brought about our friendship in the first place. God is good and if you will allow Him to, He will even establish your friendships with like minded Believers. Thank you, Lord!
